Job Description

Who is Bumper?

The team at Bumper are building something that sounds impossible. We are solving a problem that’s not just limited to crypto but could span the financial industry globally. This is the only thing of its kind and puts us at the forefront of this technology. If you feel comfortable in an ever-changing environment, one that challenges on a daily basis and rewards hard work, then consider Bumper your home.

You will have a unique opportunity to work directly on a product that will change the way people can invest in crypto.

We are creating a protocol that will allow any user to protect the underlying value of their crypto asset against all kinds of volatility levels. We call it “God-Mode for Crypto”! The scope of the protocol will reach all corners of the user landscape, from retail to degens to institutions. Already, the simulations are proving radically cheaper and more efficient than traditional options instruments.

We are building a team of the elite, the best of the best. A team that not only believes in the potential for DeFi to change the face of finance, but has the talent and skills that lead to growth and change. We still have fun however and a love for 80s pop culture is encouraged… but not needed!

Role Overview

Bumper is looking for someone who holds the tech reins of the company. They have to be a software craftsman, with a high attention to detail and a profound sense of ownership. You’ll be an outstanding communicator and will work closely with our different tech streams and be responsible for ensuring both the quality and functionality of the software we ship. You’ll champion Bumper as a Head of Engineering and across the broader crypto world as we grow our radically innovative DeFi protocol.

As we are a small (but growing) team, you will have the opportunity to shape the role into your own and recommend / lead improvements in other areas of the business if you wish.

Every day is different and brings new challenges to solve. To succeed in this role you will:

  • Develop the technological well-being of Bumper by providing technology delivery projections and roadmaps, including managing the maintenance of system architectures, designs and documentation.
  • Be responsible for tech delivery and budget across dApp, smart contracts and related work streams to translate the economic designs into deployed code.
  • Perform code reviews and maintain the health of our various source code repositories.
  • Accomplish our technology strategy by determining accountabilities, and by communicating and enforcing values, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching, counseling, disciplinary, and communication programs; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions
  • Develop organisational technology strategies by contributing technological information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction, establishing functional objectives in line with organisational objectives.
  • Partner with the co-founders on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the co-founders based on technological analysis, risk analysis, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
  • Engage senior management and department heads to align technology management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections.
  • Study current and new industry trends, technologies, software development and information processing systems to evaluate the effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Establish software development processes and set objectives for the process, including supervision of quality assurance processes, integration, and system tests.
  • Track, analyse and monitor technology performance metrics and oversee the preparation and approval of all technology reporting materials and metrics for Bumper’s board of directors.
  • Evaluate and oversee all benefits negotiations, thus providing the most competitive packages for Bumper’s technology employees.
  • Review all formal IT-related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.
  • Provide guidance on attracting and developing key IT team members for Bumper to ensure technology standards and departmental budgets are met.
  • Represent the technological agenda in staff meetings and when making hiring decisions.

You’ll have:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Strong technical experience in ReactJs, NodeJs, Typescript, Graphql, Redux
  • At least 2 years of experience using Ethereum blockchain integration technologies (ethers.js, Web3.js, the Graph, Infura, MetaMask, etc)
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience with Solidity and related development tools
  • 5 years plus professional experience
  • Experience with modern DevOps, i.e. AWS/GCP, Docker, CI/CD
  • Strong source code management skill using Git / GitHub / GitLab
  • Experience operating development teams using agile-based project management methodologies and tooling (i.e. JIRA)
  • Skill with designing web-based applications and architectures and REST APIs
  • Experience working with databases such as PostgresQLMongoDB, and designing and working with microservices

You bring with you and draw upon your past experiences in building quality scalable software using agile methodologies. You will actively determine and lead the use of best practices and can help manage development effort across the various components of the ultimate set of Bumper products. You are available between London and Sydney working hours – at least a few hours partial crossover or regular flexibility to collaborate in UK time and will need to be able to coordinate with partners and team in other time zones.

Key relationships / stakeholders

You will report to the Chief Technology Officer. The internal team leads will be your key stakeholders along with external partners who currently provide services / advice to Bumper. You will be in regular contact with other team members such as Tech Lead and Ops Manager to coordinate scope of work.
