Job Description

Azra Games is looking for a Senior Technical Animator to play a crucial role in elevating gameplay and storytelling through the use of character movement. Join us in our drive to push quality to the next level for a AAA collectibles & combat open world RPG based on an original IP, built in the Unity game engine.

We are both gamers and crypto natives. Founded by virtuoso game designer Mark Otero, best known for Electronic Arts’ top grossing Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, serial-preneur Sonny Mayugba (COO) and crypto degen Travis Boudreaux (CTO), Azra Games is backed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and NFX.

As a Senior Technical Animator you will be responsible for creating prototypes, driving the development of the animation and rigging pipelines, defining and communicating best practices and tools for animation technology.

  • You will be responsible for helping to develop our technical animation tools and character pipeline from the ground up.
  • Work directly with relevant contributors and department heads in order to develop our runtime tools for the character pipeline in the Unity Engine, and build Maya pipelines to support them.
  • Pioneer and develop solutions for character and animation workflows across the project.
  • Partner with Engineering and Tech Art to implement character systems that are robust, performant, and scalable.
  • Collaborate with Design and other disciplines to build functional prototypes in-engine, which you’ll eventually develop into shippable systems.
  • Work with Tech Anim, Animation, and Character Art Leads on developing a facial animation pipeline.
  • Provide troubleshooting support to the relevant Art and Animation Teams, mainly for Tech Anim tools in Unity and Maya.
  • Provide feedback to external partners and help ensure their work meets our quality bar and performance standards.

  • Expert knowledge of character rigging (body and facial), performance capture processes and data manipulation, in-game animation systems and methodologies
  • High level of expertise with at least two of the leading 3D applications (Maya, 3DSMax, MotionBuilder, Softimage, Houdini)
  • Scripting skills with leading 3D applications (Maya, 3DSMax, MotionBuilder) MEL, Python & JavaScript
  • Experience creating applications and tools with C# or C++ is a bonus
  • Understanding of modeling, texturing, lighting, animation, dynamics and particle systems
  • Experience creating state machines and setting up gameplay logic
  • Understanding of animation concepts such as layering, blending, motion matching
  • Able to collaborate with external teams
